The latest iteration of Toyota Corolla Hybrid 

The Corolla has a rich legacy in the South African automobile market that spans decades as a cost effective vehicle to own and maintain. However, this part of Corolla's DNA has been consigned to history. 

The Toyota Starlet hatchback, first introduced in September 2020, which retails from R268 300, fills the vacuum for a budget friendly car and this move has been a great success given how the Starlet has been embraced by consumers, catapulting it to the second best selling Toyota nameplate, after the Hilux.

The Corolla is now only offered in both the XR sedan and XR hatchback, at R584 400 and R595 100 respectively. The hatchback is distinguished by gloss black radiator grille and front fog lights. Standard comfort and convenience features on the Corolla include wireless charging, heated front seats with lumber support for the driver and lane keeping assist coupled with blindspot monitor. All these in the comfort of a leather wrapped and trimmed interior all-round.

The hybrid powertrain integrates electric motor and 1.8 litre petrol engine delivery 103kW total power output, this mated with CVT automatic transmission. This hybrid set up achieves a frugal 3.9 litre/100 kilometre fuel consumption. The internal combustion engines have been discontinued, with Toyota SA citing the broader industry and consumer shift towards electrified mobility solutions. Toyota SA has announced plans to launch three battery electric vehicles in 2026, affirming commitment to electric vehicles.
